YouthXChange in the Mediterranean: Lebanese events. A project to challenge our consumption behaviours and inspire responsible consumer choices. 26-27 November 2010, Beirut, Lebanon

Following a series of events in Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt the “YouthXChange in the Mediterranean” initiative was launched in Beirut, Lebanon, on 26-27 November 2010. The day and a half event was jointly organized by the Makhzoumi Foundation and MIO-ECSDE/MEdIES in the general framework of UNESCO/UNEP’s initiative “Youth X Change”.

Training for Green Events in the Mediterranean, 23-24 Nov 2010

MIO-ECSDE staff members participated in an interactive training focusing on how to plan, implement and evaluate sustainable events. The training was organized by the Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC) in collaboration with the non-profit organization Cooperativa Barcelonya and in support of the H2020 CB/MEP.

JES won the Council for Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment/Arab League Award for the Best Environmental Voluntary Practice in the Arab world

We are very pleased to announce that Jordan has recently won the Council for Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment/Arab League Award for the Best Environmental Voluntary Practice in the Arab world in the year 2010, for the Recycling Project that has been implemented by Jordan Environment Society (JES), since 1995.

UNEP/MAP News Release | Environmental Protection in the Mediterranean Marks Milestone: Major Legal Instruments Enter into Force Following Syria ’s Ratification

Athens, 22 November 2010 – With the ratification by Syria of two of the most innovative legal instruments for environmental protection, the Offshore and the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Protocols of the Barcelona Convention(1) will soon enter into force. Syria becomes the first among the Mediterranean countries to have ratified the Barcelona Convention, its seven Protocols and all its amendments.
