We are very pleased to announce that Jordan has recently won the Council for Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment/Arab League Award for the Best Environmental Voluntary Practice in the Arab world in the year 2010, for the Recycling Project that has been implemented by Jordan Environment Society (JES), since 1995.
Athens, 22 November 2010 – With the ratification by Syria of two of the most innovative legal instruments for environmental protection, the Offshore and the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Protocols of the Barcelona Convention(1) will soon enter into force. Syria becomes the first among the Mediterranean countries to have ratified the Barcelona Convention, its seven Protocols and all its amendments.
This workshop was organized by MIO-ECSDE as the first of a series of events (meetings/consultations/workshops) to be organized, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med), contributing to the aims and objectives of the Drin Dialogue process.
The second meeting of the Drin Core Group (DCG) took place in Ohrid, FYR Macedonia, on 3 November 2010, as part the Drin Dialogue activities for the establishment of a Shared Vision for the management of the extended Drin Basin.
MedOpen, a virtual training course developed by the PAP/RAC has been recently updated and is available on line. The main goal of this educational programme is to promote the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) as a sustainable approach to coastal management.
