MIO-ECSDE participated in the 18th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean and its Protocols, organized by the UNEP/MAP Secretariat in Istanbul on 3-6 December, 2013.

Within the framework of the European Maritime Day 2013, the MIO-ECSDE in cooperation with the EU funded Horizon 2020 Capacity Building/Mediterranean Environment Programme and the MedPartnership organized a panel discussion on the opportunities but also the threats of sustainable tourism and ecotourism development in the Mediterranean.
More than two hundred European policymakers, scientists and representatives from civil society and industry met in Berlin from 10-12 of April 2013 to debate on ways to combat marine litter in the European regional seas.
Eighteen (18) environmental NGOs from across the EU, among which MIO-ECSDE, are today calling on EU Member States to increase their level of ambition and set firmer marine litter reduction targets with the aim of ending the marine litter problem within a generation.
