Plea to Environment Ministers: Set ambitious marine litter targets, don’t waste the opportunity
Marking International bag free-day, over 30 NGOs – among which MIO-ECSDE and its member organizations Nature Trust, DPPVN, UMARINU, MEDASSET, LEGABIENTE and MEDSOS – are making a final call to EU Environment ministers ahead of the July 15 deadline for setting marine litter targets, as required under EU law.
RIO+20: Mediterraneans reaffirm their commitment to work together for Sustainable Development
At a moment of acute and persisting political, economic and social challenges in the Mediterranean, governments, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders gathered in Rio, on the invitation of the MIO-ECSDE and other major key actors, to demonstrate their commitment to overcome the difficulties and work in solidarity for green growth within a sustainable development of the region.
12th Mediterranean Honorific Award
Every June, for the past 12 years, Mediterrània – Centre d’Iniciatives Ecològiques (CIE) and MIO-ECSDE have been awarding organizations working for the improvement and protection of the Mediterranean environment with the MEDITERRANEAN HONORIFIC AWARD, as recognition of its exceptional achievements.

Horizon 2020 tackles the growing challenge of marine litter in the Mediterranean
The presence of marine litter in the Mediterranean and other European Seas is becoming an issue of high concern that requires action. Adequate measures are needed to address the pressure of litter in the marine environment both at sea and on land, whereby public awareness and education towards more sustainable lifestyles, as well as coordination at regional level play an important role.
MIO-ECSDE gearing up for Rio+20
The Mediterranean Information Office together with all major actors in the Mediterranean environmental scene, will hold an official Side Event within the framework of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
