MIO-ECSDE participated in the 3rd European Maritime Day co-organised by the European Commission, the Spanish Presidency of the European Union and the Government of the Principality of Asturias, in Gijón, Spain on 18-21 May 2010. This year’s event brought together approximately 1250 stakeholders and the main theme was ‘innovation for sustainable growth of maritime sectors and coastal regions’. The agenda included political sessions and more than 50 workshops focussing on six main directions of the Integrated Maritime Policy described in the Progress Report of the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy of 15 October 2009, and in particular on sustainable economic growth, employment and innovation, cross-cutting policy tools, sustainability and the governance of sea basins.
