Environment Commissioner Potočnik launched the Mediterranean marine litter week on 12 May in Athens, Greece

Janez Potočnik, EC Commissioner for Environment and well-known advocate for cutting marine litter in Europe, together with Ioannis Maniatis, Greek Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change and Lila Iskanda, Egypt’s Minister of State for Environment Affairs, launched on May 12th a series of activities related to Marine Litter in the Mediterranean.

Kicking off a MIO-ECSDE project to protect and conserve freshwater ecosystems in the Drin River Basin

The official launch of MIO-ECSDE’s new project entitled “Living well in harmony with the Drin” (Act4Drin) took place at the premises of the Macedonian Ecological Society on 28 March 2014 in Skopje. The project, which is funded by CEPF aims at raising public awareness, enhancing knowledge and empowering NGOs to protect and conserve freshwater ecosystems in the Drin River Basin.

MARLISCO meets to take stock of progress and plan its next steps

The first day of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the main achievements, outcomes and results produced within the first 18 months of the project towards meeting its objectives with regards to raising public awareness, facilitating dialogue and promoting co-responsibility on marine litter across all European seas.
