The Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED), co-founding member of MIO-ECSDE, co-organised the national workshop “Environmental and Climate Communication” in Egypt under the framework of the Water and Environment Support – Biodiversity and Climate Action (WES-BCA) in the Neighbourhood South region project. It took place in Zamalek, Cairo, over two days on 13-14 July 2026.

More than 45 NGOs/CSOs, journalists, media professionals, youth activists, academics, communication experts from all parts of the country, and staff in charge of media from governmental institutions, came together to exchange experiences, build new skills, and explore new ways to communicate environmental and climate issues. From transforming science to knowledge, storytelling and digital content to solutions journalism, the workshop was all about creating content that informs, connects, and inspires action.

The event was part of the work programme of Component II (Communication and Outreach) of the WES-BCA project, led by MIO-ECSDE, which seeks to raise awareness, increase public understanding and encourage climate action and environmental protection across the project’s Partner Countries. It directly contributed to the implementation of the Pact for the Mediterranean, the EU’s flagship initiative launched in November 2025 to strengthen cooperation with its Southern Mediterranean partners.

It was great to see so much creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the workshop. Working together, participants developed creative concepts and applied communication tools to help make environmental and climate stories more engaging and impactful. They will apply their new skills and approach over the coming months and together we will follow-up on the results. There is a real commitment to be part of a transformative Mediterranean Community for Climate Action.
