From 21 to 23 October 2025, more than 100 representatives from NGOs, parliaments, media, women and youth, research institutions, and private-sector associations from across the Mediterranean will convene in Cairo, Egypt for the Mediterranean Stakeholder Forum on Environment and Climate Action, themed “Making the behavioral shift happen”.
The Mediterranean is widely recognized as a climate hotspot, where rising temperatures, water scarcity, desertification, sea-level rise and extreme weather events are already putting immense pressure on communities and ecosystems. While countries and regional actors are accelerating efforts to transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient economies, progress remains uneven and the need for rapid, coordinated action is growing.
At the same time, the region has become a front-runner in adaptation, where science-based policies, regional cooperation, community-driven innovation, and impactful awareness and education initiatives are delivering tangible results on the ground.
A Forum to turn Awareness into Deeper Understanding and everyday Action
The Forum will bring together diverse voices and expertise to strengthen understanding, skills, and communities of practice across the Mediterranean. It aims to help break down siloed governance approaches, foster joint narratives, and accelerate behavioral change in support of climate preparedness.
Key discussions will focus on linking knowledge to everyday action, ensuring that environmental and climate goals are embedded into policies, business practices, and community life.
Who’s behind the Forum
The Forum is supported by the European Union, the Mediterranean Action Plan of UNEP, the Union for the Mediterranean, the League of Arab States and the Ministry of Environment of Egypt. It is made possible with the support of the EU-funded WES-BCA project and the GEF-funded MedProgramme, in close collaboration with the EU Delegation to Egypt, RAED and other partners that champion climate action through diverse initiatives.
- Water and Environment Support – Biodiversity and Climate Action (WES-BCA) supports partner countries in the Southern Mediterranean in enhancing environmental governance, biodiversity protection, and climate action — with a strong emphasis on public awareness, education, and behavioral change.
- MedProgramme fosters pollution reduction, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience across the region, promoting science-policy dialogue and regional cooperation to safeguard people and ecosystems.
Co-Creating a Shared Mediterranean Vision
Throughout the three-day event, participants will co-develop recommendations and key messages to shape a shared Mediterranean vision and narrative on climate action and behavioral change. These outcomes will inform upcoming policy processes and strengthen regional and sub-regional cooperation.
