This past summer has highlighted in grave ways just how urgently comprehensive climate action is needed in the Mediterranean. Heatwaves with record temperatures, wildfires in most countries, floods, and stark climate futures for the region indicated by the very recent Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, are just a few of the most prominent facts that we all had to bear over the last couple of months.
It was during this time that MIO-ECSDE launched the special issue of its Sustainable Mediterranean journal on Climate Change featuring contributions of more than 30 eminent Mediterranean actors aiming to strengthen the Mediterranean alliance on this “burning” for the Mediterranean problem.
On September 21st, 10:00-11:30 CET, MIO-ECSDE is organizing with some of the contributors as well as others a panel discussion, on how the Mediterranean leadership, knowledge, and practice communities are prepared to better address the looming challenge in the region, to limit human-induced global warming, and prepare appropriately to adapt to climate change in practical terms under the Paris Agreement.
The event is supported by the LIFE Programme of the European Union and the Green Fund of the Greek Ministry for Environment and Energy.
Register now and follow the discussion on September 21st. A Q&A session will follow the panelists’ interventions.
