MedOpen, a virtual training course developed by the PAP/RAC has been recently updated and is available on line. The main goal of this educational programme is to promote the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) as a sustainable approach to coastal management.

MedOpen is aimed at decision makers (at the local, national, regional, and international level), policy advisors, project managers, staff and experts from international organisations and institutions, academic researchers, students, and all others interested in coastal management. The main advantage of MedOpen with respect to other ICZM training programmes is that it is available online and is completely free of charge.

Detailed information and application at www.medopen.org

MedOpen course includes Basic and Advanced modules, both thematically divided into lectures. The basic module provides elementary information on coastal management in the Mediterranean, with every lecture followed by a short quiz. The advanced module offers live support of our highly experienced professors. It requires a higher degree of commitment by the trainee and includes additional materials available for downloading, participation in a simulation game, discussions related to the topics, and preparation of the final essay by the candidates. The candidates with positively assessed final exam and simulation game will be awarded the PAP/RAC certificate. The best candidate (according to the quality of the final essay, participation in the simulation game, participation in the discussions, but also the basic quiz results) will be engaged in the current PAP/RAC projects.

As of today, the Basic module is permanently available at www.medopen.org, while the Advanced module, this time in English version, starts on November 23, 2010. Candidates interested in MedOpen Advanced are invited to perform both courses simultaneously, since the Advanced module is basically an upgrade of the Basic module. A total of 21 candidates will be chosen for the Advanced course. In this edition advantage will be given to the partners of the PEGASO project, while other candidates will be chosen on the basis of the equitable geographical distribution and the necessity of these skills in the candidate’s daily job.

Participants can apply to MedOpen training course until November 7, 2010.
