The Għajn National Water Conservation Awareness Centre in Malta, managed by the Energy and Water Agency, won the prestigious European Sustainability Award for 2019. The award aims to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals in the European Union by giving a human face to the efforts and creativity of European people, businesses and organizations, which are turning the global sustainable development goals into concrete solutions and opportunities. The National Water Conservation Awareness Centre aims to raise awareness on the challenges faced by the water sector in the Maltese islands within a broad context of sustainable water resources management.
MIO-ECSDE and GWP-Med are recognized as having helped the Centre deliver its water conservation message, while MIO-ECSDE member organisation Nature Trust Malta and the Ekoskola Initiative are specifically mentioned as contributors to the development of the Centre’s tailor-made educational programme.
