After many years, and virtual Annual General Meetings (AGMs) taking place each December since 2020, the 30th AGM of MIO-ECSDE took place also in person!

Held in Cairo on the 22nd of October 2025, it was embedded within the Mediterranean Stakeholder Forum on Environment and Climate Action – “Making the Behavioural Shift Happen: NGOs/CSOs, Parliamentarians, Journalists, Women and Youth Organisations, and Other Actors Meet in Cairo” (21–23 October 2025) that brought together more than 170 stakeholders from across the region and beyond.
The member organisations that partook in the Cairo events expressed their satisfaction with the opportunity offered to learn, exchange, be panelists in the many sessions of the Forum and live the Cairo experience as kindly organized by local founding member RAED. A lot of the main concerns of the membership were addressed during the Forum (shrinking civic space, less access to finance, impacts of climate change, etc.).
During the AGM, the physically and virtually assembled member organisations unanimously approved a series of key documents regarding the 2025 progress of the Federation and 2026 activity and financial planning.

Despite the lack of operational funding the Federation has succeeded in many project submissions, embarking on new exciting initiatives and successfully finalizing other international projects. The Secretariat, Executive Bureau and active Membership had a key role to play in this and their hard work and commitment were repeatedly praised. However, risks and challenges are a certainty for 2026 onwards and need to be addressed head-on.
The AGM closed with the elections for those members of the Executive Bureau whose 2-year term has come to an end. The constitution of the new Executive Bureau till the next AGM can be seen here.
Let’s aim for hybrid AGMs being the new normal!
