WHO WE ARE MIO-ECSDE: The Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development, is a non-profit Federation of Mediterranean NGOs for Environment and Development. It acts as a technical and political platform for the presentation of views and intervention of NGOs in the Mediterranean scene. Its main objectives are to protect the Natural Environment (flora and fauna, biotopes, forests, coasts, natural resources, climate) and the Cultural Heritage (archaeological monuments traditional settlements, cities, etc.) of the Mediterranean region. MIO-ECSDE has as its guiding operational philosophy and strategy to be actively involved and contribute in the formulation of environmental and environment friendly policies within the framework of sustainable development for the Mediterranean with emphasis on the relevant EU policies. The Federation consists of 107 Full and Corresponding Members (2010) MEdIES: The Mediterranean Education Initiative for Environment and Sustainability is the initiative of MIO-ECSDE that deals with all ESD activities, such as training seminars at national and international level, preparation of ESD publications in many Mediterranean languages and the promotion of an e-network of ESD educators.
